An update banner is easy to tap. The useful part is the changelog and the permission prompt that follows it. This checklist helps you read both before you agree.
Read the version note, not only the art
Look for a version number, a date, and a sentence about what changed. “Bug fixes” is fine. A sudden request for new device access is not a bug fix. Write down the old version if you can see it in settings; it helps if you need to ask support a precise question later.
Re-check the legal pages
Policy pages sometimes change in the same week as an app update. Scan the refund, bonus, and inactivity sections. If a line that protected you last month is gone, treat that as a product decision, not a design tweak.
After you update
Open the security page, confirm the login email, and look at recent devices. Then return to ordinary use. If the app now needs contacts or SMS to “finish setup”, revisit the evaluation guide.
